Family Dollar is seeking a highly capable Manager, Hybrid Cloud Engineering, to lead the design, delivery, and operational excellence of our hybrid infrastructure platform. This role is responsible for managing a team of engineers supporting cloud, virtualization, storage, and core systems across both on-premises and public cloud environments.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with leadership experience, and brings a forward-looking mindset focused on automation, scalability, reliability, and cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers across cloud, virtualization, storage, and OS disciplines
  • Drive accountability, performance management, and a culture of continuous learning and technical growth
  • Build future leaders and subject matter experts within the team

Hybrid Cloud & Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee design, implementation, and operations of hybrid environments (public cloud + on-prem)
  • Manage and optimize virtualization platforms including VMware and oVirt
  • Partner with network, security, and application teams to support enterprise-wide initiatives

Storage & Data Management

  • Own enterprise storage platforms (NetApp), ensuring performance, availability, and scalability
  • Define and implement storage strategies aligned with business and growth needs

Systems & Platform Engineering

  • Ensure stability, security, and performance of Linux and Windows server environments
  • Standardize builds, patching, and lifecycle management

Backup, Recovery & Resiliency

  • Design and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies using enterprise solutions (Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik)
  • Ensure compliance with RTO/RPO objectives and business continuity requirements

Automation & Modernization

  • Drive Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation initiatives using tools like Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Bash
  • Reduce manual operations and improve deployment consistency

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity; proactively resolve issues to ensure high availability
  • Establish metrics, SLAs, and continuous improvement processes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with network, security, and application teams to support enterprise initiatives
  • Support large-scale programs including migrations, modernization, and separation activities

Vendor & Technology Management

  • Manage vendor relationships and support evaluation/adoption of new technologies
  • Drive cost optimization and value realization from infrastructure investments

Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain clear documentation of architecture, processes, and operational procedures
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and governance standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in systems or infrastructure engineering, with leadership responsibilities
  • Strong expertise in hybrid cloud environments and virtualization (VMware, oVirt)
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise storage platforms (NetApp preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration
  • Experience with backup and recovery technologies (Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible)
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to operate in fast-paced environments and manage competing priorities

Nice to Have (Preferred Skills)

  • Experience with public cloud platforms (OCI, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Exposure to monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, Zabbix, etc.)
  • Experience in large-scale transformation or infrastructure separation programs
