Senior Java Software Engineer - NMS

As a Senior Java Software Engineer – NMS reporting to Director – Software Engineering, NMS, you'll play a critical role in designing and delivering Nasdaq's leading Market Surveillance platform — technology that helps keep global markets fair, transparent, and efficient.

You'll thrive in this position if you're a hands-on engineer who takes ownership, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and wants to make a real impact in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Based in Sydney, this role follows a hybrid work model (at least 2 days per week in-office).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, troubleshooting and implement solutions to Nasdaq Market Surveillance

  • Reviews system requirements and business processes.

  • Participate in technical design, functional specification reviews, develop project estimates, schedules, test plans, and code reviews.

  • Proactively identify and resolve potential problems/issues including authoring of technical specifications.

  • Determines systems software design requirements.

  • Provides application software development services or technical support typically for more challenging assignments.

  • Mentor others in the team on implementing system improvements, challenging the team to increase efficiency wherever possible and to utilize current industry trends.

  • Participates in IT systems strategy, development and /or integrations services to clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Have Degree qualified in Computer Science, Business/Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • At least 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering using Java.

  • Experience working in financial institutions is highly preferred but not required

  • Special Qualifications: Maintains professional association memberships.  Specialized development in business acumen, financial, and critical thinking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in financial institutions, fintech, or capital markets.
  • Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
