Department Overview

Our customers are public safety agencies, governments and military organizations who use our mission critical communications systems. The Security Update Service team, part of the Motorola Solutions cybersecurity services organization, protects mission critical systems by ensuring security updates are verified, tested, and installed.


Job Description

As a systems engineer, you will be responsible for vetting security updates, testing, deploying, troubleshooting and creating/maintaining documentations for mission critical systems. Depending on the projects/tasks being worked on, may require the you to work with different teams within the company and also developers within the teams.

Responsibilities: 

  • Certifying Security Updates for use on Motorola Solutions Products

  • Communicate with different team members within and outside the organization to resolve defects/issues

  • Develop/maintain documentation for internal use and customer facing documentation.

  • Troubleshoot system and network issues that result from updates 

  • Provide reporting on the status of running systems, applications, and updates 

  • Work with other teams to understand processes and look for ways to improve them via automation

  • Hands on experience with Windows and Linux operating systems 

  • High level knowledge of an automation/deployment/configuration solution like (ansible, puppet, chef, jenkins, etc)

  • High level knowledge of networking concepts (i.e. network devices, IP addresses, ports, and protocols)

  • High level knowledge of virtualization concepts (VMWare ESXI)

  • Experience performing troubleshooting, break fix, or technical support on Windows or Linux operating systems  

  • Experience working with EDR/XDR solutions

  • Experience using SharePoint, Jira, or other project tracking systems  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have strong organizational skills  

  • Experience working with Windows/Linux OS

  • Experience working with one or more programming/scripting language (C, C++, C#, Shell, Powershell, Bash, Node.js, etc)

  • May require moving equipment weighting up to 50 lb.


Basic Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, IT or Networking and 3+ years of Engineering or Wireless Communications experience required.

  • Experience working with servers/workstations hardware required.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
