Your role

You'll be a part of our Funds Super & Financial Services (FSF) team in Sydney, and will also have the opportunity to work with our FSF lawyers in Melbourne as well as with lawyers across our offices.

Working closely with our Partners and the wider team, you will gain exposure to the most complex and interesting superannuation and broader financial services regulatory work in the market. The Allens structure means you will work with a number of Partners and gain exposure to a wide variety of work within your core areas of expertise. We encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in areas they're interested in, while continuing to build a strong foundation across a broad range of laws.

Our team's clients are Australia's most prominent superannuation funds, wealth platforms, life insurers, banks and other financial services providers. As a superannuation and financial services regulatory specialist in FSF, your role will include a wide range of work including:

  • helping clients with their most important regulatory and transformation projects;

  • assisting clients to respond to regulatory investigations and prosecutions, including APRA and ASIC proceedings;

  • advising on superannuation fund mergers;

  • working with our M&A team on transactions in the financial services area;

  • advising clients on their financial services regulatory obligations, including licensing, disclosure and conduct obligations; and

  • preparing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including outsourcing and distribution arrangements.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. However flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.

About you

You will have:

  • experience advising superannuation and/or other financial services clients (wealth platforms, life insurers, and/or banks) on a range of regulatory matters, including core experience advising on the SIS Act, APRA Prudential Standards, Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act and the ASIC Act;

  • private practice experience working in a specialist superannuation and/or financial services regulatory team, while in-house legal experience (including on secondment) would also be valued;

  • a desire to specialise in superannuation and financial services regulatory work;

  • excellent academics and legal analysis, writing and communication skills; and

  • a desire to learn, grow, network, and mentor others.
