What you will do
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Engineering, Intrusion Security Products in Toronto, the Director, Software Quality Engineering will provide global leadership for the software quality assurance engineering team and certification team.
The Software Quality Director will oversee the quality assurance (QA) processes within the global organization, ensuring that our software products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. This role requires extensive experience in Agile methodologies, a strategic mindset, and a hands-on approach to lead and mentor the QA team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a passion for continuous improvement and a keen eye for detail.
In the search of a transformational leader to create a high performing culture by developing, mentoring and building the talent potential of the software quality engineering and certification team. They will be equally adept at enhancing the processes, handling resource issues and collaborating with the cross-functional teams of Software, Hardware, Mechanical, Product Management, Marketing and Manufacturing, to assure successful delivery of product releases.
How will you do it
Leadership and Strategy:
Develop and implement a comprehensive quality assurance strategy that aligns with the company’s objectives.
Lead and mentor a team of QA professionals, fostering a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continuously evolve the QA processes.
Quality Assurance Management:
Oversee all aspects of QA including test planning, execution, and reporting.
Ensure rigorous testing of software products to identify and resolve defects early in the development cycle.
Implement and maintain QA metrics to monitor and improve the quality of software products.
Agile Methodologies:
Champion Agile practices within the QA team and across the organization.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including development, product management, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of QA processes in the Agile workflow.
Facilitate Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives) to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
Process Improvement:
Identify areas for improvement within the QA processes and implement effective solutions.
Drive initiatives to automate testing processes, increase test coverage, and reduce cycle times.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Communication:
Communicate QA strategies, plans, and progress to senior management and stakeholders.
Provide regular updates on product quality, risks, and mitigation strategies.
What we look for
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree is an asset.
10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Extensive experience with Agile methodologies.
Proven track record of successfully leading QA teams in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, testing methodologies, and QA best practices.
Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks.
Certification in Agile (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster) is a plus.
Knowledge of Intrusion Security System environments including its regulation is an asset
Knowledgeable in regulatory standards and its processes for certification such as; Wi-Fi, Zwave, Zigbee, Cellular, UL/ULc is an asset.
Basic knowledge of analog and digital hardware, microcontrollers, microprocessors and DSP processors. Product knowledge relating to security system is an asset.
