The Automotive Electrification and Sustainable Energy BU is seeking a motivated, experienced embedded software engineer intern to provide support to the Systems and Solutions team located at Cork Airport Business Park, Cork. The Automotive Electrification and Sustainable Energy BU's purpose is to engineer a decarbonized, cleaner, and a more sustainable electrified future. Developing solutions for the digitized grid, renewable energy generation, energy storage, EV charging infrastructure, smart meters and electrified powertrain, the group supports customers with break-through technology to convert, manage, and store electrical power. Key responsibilities include working with a broad team of ADI engineers in the business unit and across ADI’s technology teams to write embedded software and integrate it into full system solutions for electric vehicle chargers and energy storage solutions.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Primary responsibilities include implementing code at all levels of embedded platforms, from boot, interrupt, and system code to production applications. Responsibilities include troubleshooting evaluation board and hardware as necessary, designing and running experiments to validate the quality of the embedded system, and embedded prototyping, including:

  • Write software to implement system solutions for electric vehicle charging and battery storage applications.
  • Integrate same software on microcontrollers, in FPGAs or DSPs, and on third party boards.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot software and hardware on evaluation boards.
  • Contribute to process and tools for efficient development and delivery of hardware and software including high quality software and design documentation.
  • Design and implement regression testing regimes to validate software quality.

Minimum qualifications

This position is suited to an embedded software engineering student who is comfortable with hardware, embedded software/hardware platforms, device drivers, boot loaders, low-level system software, higher level applications and signal processing. The candidate should be comfortable with working on hardware platforms, making measurements on lab equipment, and writing code in a variety of languages like C, C++, and scripting languages like Python.

Required:

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s or a master’s degree program in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, in at least a third-year equivalent course level.
  • Experience with integration of software and hardware systems and debug.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with hardware and software engineers.
  • Proficiency with integrating software onto hardware platforms and hardware debugging.
  • Familiarity with C, C++, and Python or other scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle, software configuration management tools, and software release process
  • Experience with SCM tools (GIT, SVN, ClearCase, Perforce, etc.) or similar.
  • Experience with defect tracking tools (Jira, SVN, etc.) or similar

Desired:

  • Experience with Linux, MATLAB embedded environment
  • Familiarity with FPGA platforms (Xilinx or Altera)
  • Fundamental knowledge of DSP, sampling theory
