Responsibilities:
- Support Construction Manager and Operations in aspect assessments, implementation and overall compliance with the Project Environmental Program
- Manages all environmental issues associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring, inspections, close out of corrective actions and follow-up program in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Environmental Law and any applicable Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements
- Establishes and maintains working relationships for liaising with relevant Governmental Authorities and Stakeholders on all matters related to environmental management and sustainability in cooperation with the Project Representative along with filing or submitting required reports to any Government Authority as required
- Ensured effective implementation and compliance with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) inclusive of the commitments herein, from the Environmental Assessment and Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements
- Coordinating all activities that demonstrate to the Construction Manager and Project Representative that all obligations and requirements of the Construction Manager, including the Construction Manager Environmental Commitments, have been satisfied
- Manages the preparation and submission of all plans, reports, documents, and other information required
- Lead the Bi-Weekly Environmental Working Group Meetings with the Client and provide environmental updates in the Progress Meetings
- Prepare and Present (or delegate) Environmental Awareness Training, toolbox talks to the Project Team and Subcontractors Mentor and support Environmental colleagues through environmental risk mitigation, development of monitoring and inspection plans as well as tracking of Key Performance Indicators and opportunities for Improvement on the Project
Qualifications
- Possesses a Degree/Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability-Climate Change, Civil or Environmental Law, Environmental Studies and/or Environmental Management Systems
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of environmental standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
- 10+ years and/or CAN-CISEC certification for Construction Erosion and Sedimentation Control (ESC) Inspections and Reporting and/or demonstrated experience in ESC Plan Development, monitoring, inspecting, Reporting and reassessments
- 10+ years of experience in leading Environmental Aspects on construction Projects in Canada (experience in Ontario working for/with Metrolinx/CPKC or CN Rail Transit Projects is an asset) Environmental Aspect Assessment and the development of preventative/mitigation measures relating to soils, water management, vegetation/tree, sustainability, noise, and vibration, air quality monitoring, spill reporting, complaint investigations and permitting process
- 10+ years of experience with experience with groundwater and surface water management, sustainability, noise, and vibration and permitting process.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating and supporting Site Operations through Environmental Management, proactive strategic planning, inspections, corrections, etc.
- Health & Safety focused and experience in Compliance Monitoring for Environmental Laws and Contractual Obligations, competent in internal and external environmental auditing under ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
- Experienced with requirements of and compliance with Ontario Regulation 153/04 as amended, and 406/19 (Excess Soil Regulation) and the online Resource Productivity Recovery Authority (RPRA) for soils and waste management, including Ontario Regulation 347
- Experienced obtaining and/or managing Environmental Consultations in obtaining Environmental permits such as a Permit to Take Water and Environmental Activity Sector Registry
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal, comfortable developing and presenting Environmental Awareness Presentations/Toolbox Talks, experienced in leading clients
- Spearheaded and/or demonstrated evidence of development, inspections, preventative and overall environmental management relating to Construction Erosion and Sedimentation
- Control Inspections and Maintenance. Familiar with the ISO 14001 Principles and Environmental Management Systems for Construction Projects
- Relevant Environment experience in a mentor/ leadership position, including mentoring colleagues, as well as interfacing with the Client and Governmental Bodies
- Metrolinx Personal Track Safety, WHMIS Training, Spill Response Training, CPR-First Aid etc.
