Five Student Associates will be hired to meet Youth Protection safety requirements.
In this 100% virtual position, (5) hired Student Associates act as chaperones/camp counselors to ensure high school student participant safety online during the Summer Healthcare Experience in Oncology Program while also sharing their college experience and encouraging high school students to pursue careers and course work in STEM fields. This position fulfills UT Austin’s requirement for Designated Individuals within the Youth Protection Program. SHE in Oncology is a national program funded by the National Institute of Health that includes 100 students from across the US participating synchronously on Zoom, for 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 2 weeks.
20 local Central Texas high school students hosted by UT Austin’s Dell Medical School; UT Austin Cancer Research Center (formerly Livestrong Cancer Institutes) will participate. The other participating institutions hosting 20 students each are the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Safety of UT Austin hosted students online. Utilize safety training created by the UT Austin Youth Protection Program.
Mentorship. Student Associates are asked to present a topic on a subject that they wish they had known more about before they started their college career. Student Associates will be asked to share what they are studying within their current degree plan, as well as their exposure to career opportunities within internships and extracurriculars.
Online event operations and logistics. Student Associates will be asked to take attendance and assist when needed with any administrative tasks, as assigned by their supervisor.
Must be a UT Austin undergraduate student or spring 2026 graduate.
Must have some experience working successfully with members of the public in a customer service-oriented role.
Must have a laptop with a working microphone and camera.
Must have access to internet.
Must agree to complete a background check and pass a background check in order to meet UT Austin Youth Protection Program requirements.
Must complete all required online asynchronous training by June 12, 2026, Student Associates are paid for training time.
Must be available to work online from 8:00am to 12:00pm, Monday – Friday, July 13 – July 24, 2026.
Must be available for team online orientation meetings on June 25 from 11:00am to 12:00pm CST and July 7 from 11:00am to 12:00pm CST.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
