The SWDC Threat Products and Services organization is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat data products in support of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) ground test event simulations.

The Radar Cross Section (RCS) Modeling and Simulation Engineer role will help develop, analyze and Quality Control RCS models, produce RCS signatures, and be responsible for the verification and validation of RCS signatures.  This position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for understanding RCS models, adjusting RCS models to work within the TMC’s RCS generation framework, understanding and verifying RCS results, and providing documentation required for running threat data in Ground Test architectures.  The Modeling Engineer will support a team out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

This role requires employees to be onsite daily.

Essential Functions:

  • Good understanding of Radar systems and RCS phenomenology, as well as, modeling and simulation methods and processes.  
  • Willing to work in new areas of development and be able to pioneer new capability development and requirements. 
  • Effectively communicate requirements and processes to fellow engineers, system engineers, software developers.  
  • Comfortable working with little or no direct supervision and work as an integral member of a geographically dispersed Agile cross functional team.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications (BQ’s):

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer 2 or a Principal Systems Engineer 3 level.

Basic  Requirements:

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years experience,
  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, model end users, and MDA ground test stakeholders to ensure product requirements are met
  • Strong knowledge of Radar systems, Radar Cross Sections, scattering models.
  • Ability to develop radar system model representations from radar specifications.
  • Familiar with Computer Aided Design tools and models.
  • Understanding of the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic energy transmission, reflection, scattering.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Experience with verification and validation RCS simulation results.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in modeling missile signature representations to include Radar Cross Section.
  • Ability to run method of moments codes.
  • Experience developing FACET models from CAD.
  • Understanding and experience with High Performance Computing architectures.
  • Ability to reduce simulation outputs to RCS averages and scattering point representations.

Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Salary Range 2: $97,500.00 - $146,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
