Lead Commercial Learning & Development, Germany (m/f/d)

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Operations Director, this role provides highly skilled CL&D Business Partner support for Gilead Germany. Gilead Germany has approx. 300 employees who are based in Martinsried or field-based.

The majority of staff in the affiliates are sales & marketing oriented, and the affiliate also has Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal & Finance functions, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Clinical Operations and Pharmacovigilance. Whilst the GM has full day-to-day responsibility for running all aspects of the business, Gilead is a functionally aligned organisation with the non-sales & marketing staff reporting to their function heads in Stockley Park.

By the very nature of a rapidly growing and highly demanding business, the demands upon the Commercial Learning & Development function will be wide and varied.  Leaders set demanding performance expectations for their businesses and will expect the same from CL&D; leading the way in defining skills & knowledge for the commercial staff, balancing pragmatic solutions, flawless execution and the ability to partner & challenge effectively.  At the same time, and consistent with the overall culture at Gilead, this role will not only require strong strategic competence but also someone who is very comfortable in being hands-on.

Key Responsibilities for the Lead CL&D:

  • Develops and establishes strong strategic Business Partnerships with key Stakeholders, evolves CL&D processes and ways of working with the Business Units
  • Manages the Commercial Learning & Development Team and leads Project Teams within the Gilead Matrix
  • Develops a comprehensive training needs assessment based upon skills needed today and tomorrow – including incorporation of omnichannel customer engagement into current selling model in close collaboration with Digital, Marketing and Sales
  • Works across departments in Commercial Operations to ensure business partnership and excellence in delivery by incorporating insights from market research and secondary data
  • Designs and recommends training programs for field personnel to improve the knowledge and application of selling techniques by providing accurate and persuasive information about strategies, products and services in a therapeutic area.
  • Integrates and incorporates the Gilead selling model ELITE Performance in all commercial training activities as the fundament of our communication to build strong partnerships with our customers
  • Coordinates and collaborates closely with Global CL&D for co-creation and integration of Global CL&D initiatives flawlessly into local training plans
  • Develops and implements Sales Leads Development Programs
  • Develops and coordinates all continuous and/or launch training programs for the commercial field forces
  • Coordinates and develops Gileads onboarding process for new hires
  • Evolves and leads our external trainer network
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders internally & externally e.g. centres of excellence, CL&D Global, training specialists, coaches etc.
  • Designs and coordinates the involvement of internal and external training participants (e.g., speakers, role play participants, etc.)
  • Manages multiple projects and priorities and participates in cross-functional projects that include the development of training modules and curriculum.
  • Develops and implements preceptorship programs for either training or special purposes
  • Works with outside vendors and internal medical experts to design and construct training materials on therapeutic areas and specific Gilead products
  • Responsible for managing external vendors in the development of learning and training tools, content, and curriculum

  • Excellent planner, able to formulate, develop and execute training strategy with strong ability to prioritize and effectively manages multiple projects and commercial initiatives
  • Excellent knowledge and proven skills in designing, facilitating and implementing all types of F2F, Remote, Live Online Trainings, e-&mobile Learnings and Workshops, including designing Medical and Market Access Trainings
  • High affinity to new technologies and experience in how to communicate and interact in an Omnichannel Customer Environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, intra- and interpersonal skills in order to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict, and drive consensus amongst disparate groups of individuals
  • Strong commercial training skills and thorough knowledge and/or expertise in each area (e.g., commercial skills, core business skills, specialized skills, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity and knowledge of commonly used psychologic concepts, practices, and procedures for selling skills, communication (and other) trainings
  • Demonstrates ability to conceive, develop and implement training plans on time and within budget
  • Ability to assume full responsibility for accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of deliverables completed through own efforts
  • Independently leads projects and coordinates input from cross-functional teams of Sales, Marketing, Analytics and external vendors
  • Able to apply strong business and financial management skills to the Learning and Development function
  • Establishes and maintains positive business relationships in key segments of the Commercial organization, consistently demonstrating a thorough understanding of internal customers’ business needs, their processes, and immediate priorities.
  • Interacts with internal customers ranging from executives to Commercial management to field sales
  • Is an inspiring Leader and is also experienced to lead in a matrix team.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant software systems (e.g., MS Excel, MS Word & PowerPoint, etc.) is required

Experience

  • Multiple years of related experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry
  • BS or BA degree
  • Experience in commercial training or health education, ideally in a leadership position
  • Field Sales  and/or Marketing experience
  • Certificated trainer and business coach is a benefit
  • Excellent English language skills, German language is a must
