The National Security Sector at Leidos, supporting the Surface Sonar Program, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support United States Navy’s Undersea Warfare (USW) Systems. The Surface Sonar program is based in Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, VA, and is responsible for supporting the SQQ-89 Sonar System and related equipment for the In-Service Engineering Agent. We are seeking resilient, innovative team-players with a reputation for excellence. This position is on site at Naval Air Station, Oceana, Dam Neck Annex with the potential of 25% travel.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform technical and Life Cycle Support (LCS) to the Surface Sonar AN/SQQ-89 family of Sonar Systems inclusive of auxiliary, power, subsystems, and peripheral equipment.
Analyze technical drawings, manuals, electronic schematics and design documentation to troubleshoot, analyze, repair and maintain electronic components and systems.
Develop, prepare, and provide recommended updates to schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and diagrams.
Sets up, configures and troubleshoots computer system networks and associated hardware/software components.
Installs software and required software patches, firmware updates and restore computer systems and networks to a fully operational state following procedure completion.
Serve as site lead for technical team.
Review test procedures and technical documents, providing feedback and recommendations for change.
Conduct tests and analyze results.
Ensure serviceability of equipment delivered to installation activities.
Provide care and protection, maintenance, and inspections of delivered equipment or material.
Prepare reports detailing progress, remaining work to be completed, and issues encountered.
Participate in and make recommendations to various working groups.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field + 4 years of professional experience in performing network router, server, switch configuration settings, verifying and upgrading/down grading firmware versions, and loading software on network servers.
Four (4)+ years of full-time professional experience in providing support associated with the design, test, installation, modification, repair and/or logistic support for Navy Warfare Systems.
4+ years of experience in networking standards, architectures and protocols.
4+ years of specialized experience in the following areas:
Cisco IOS operation, modification and updates
Sub-netting and Network configuration
Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 1 equivalent
Effective communication & interpersonal skills with ability to present data and explain results to leadership, subordinates and peers.
Ability to effectively work within a multi-functional and diverse team.
Clearance Requirements: Active DoD Secret clearance required to start.
Ability to obtain and maintain passport.
Preferred Qualifications
SQQ-89 A(V)15 system experience
Networking experience with VLANs, ACLs, VPCs, Routing and Cisco hardware/software troubleshooting.
Strong engineering analytical and technical writing skills with demonstrated experience authoring technical reports and supporting design reviews.
Understanding of the systems engineering process to move from requirements to hardware selection and integration.
Fiber troubleshooting experience
Experience in maritime or afloat system integration
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, perform engineering calculations and analyze engineering data related to process controls and operations.
