Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced Optical & Network Engineer to support carrier-grade optical transport networks, fiber infrastructure, and IP networking solutions. This role involves designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing DWDM/CWDM systems, supporting dark fiber remediation, and integrating network components within data centers and carrier environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with optical systems, fiber analysis, and routing protocols, playing a critical role in maintaining high network availability, performance, and security in large-scale enterprise or carrier environments.
Software Requirements
Required Software Proficiency:
DWDM / CWDM technologies — in-depth understanding supporting deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of optical networks
Fiber-optic principles and infrastructure — comprehensive knowledge supporting installation, maintenance, and fault analysis
OTDR testing tools (e.g., Fibre Testers) — experience in fiber span analysis, loss measurement, and dark fiber diagnosis
Carrier-grade optical platforms: Adva FSP3000R7, Ciena 6500 — hands-on expertise managing, configuring, and troubleshooting these systems
Networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP — core protocol knowledge supporting network routing and segmentation supporting high availability
Network management tools supporting monitoring, configuration, and fault detection
Preferred Software Skills:
Support for high-availability network automation tools supporting configuration management and provisioning
Experience with network security tools supporting ACLs, firewalls, and intrusion detection in optical networks
Overall Responsibilities
Design, configure, and support DWDM/CWDM optical transport networks for enterprise or carrier environments
Troubleshoot complex fiber and network issues, including span loss, fiber bends, dark fiber problems, and network outages
Support system upgrades, firmware patches, and migrations to optimize network performance and reliability
Collaborate with telecom carriers, network teams, and internal engineers to identify issues, support dark fiber remediation, and improve network resilience
Manage and support IP routing, VLAN configurations, and layer 2/3 switching supporting high-availability environments
Conduct fiber testing, diagnostics, and performance analysis supporting service level agreements (SLAs) and operational stability
Develop and maintain documentation of network topology, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures
Contribute to network security, compliance, and governance standards supporting enterprise policies and regulatory requirements

Network & Optical Transport (Essential):
DWDM/CWDM systems (Adva FSP3000R7, Ciena 6500 or equivalents) supporting high-capacity optical transport
Fiber optic principles, OTDR testing, span analysis supporting physical layer troubleshooting

7 to 9 years supporting large-scale optical and data network environments, including fiber, DWDM/CWDM systems, and optical transport infrastructure
Proven experience configuring and troubleshooting carrier-grade optical platforms supporting high-availability services
Strong background in fiber testing, dark fiber remediation, and network performance optimization
Experience working in carrier or enterprise environments supporting regulated, high-availability services supporting SLA commitments
Support experience with network security, access controls, and compliance standards supporting data confidentiality and integrity
Day-to-Day Activities
Support physical layer fiber network deployment, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of optical transport systems
Conduct routine fiber testing, diagnostics, and fault isolation supporting dark fiber remediation and fiber health monitoring
Configure and support high-capacity optical network equipment supporting enterprise and telecom workflows
Support system upgrades, firmware updates, and migrations ensuring minimal downtime
Monitor fiber and network performance, analyze incidents, and proactively take corrective actions
Collaborate with carrier and internal network teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues
Maintain documentation for network topology, fiber diagnostics, and configuration records
Support security and compliance initiatives supporting regulatory standards and operational resilience
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecom, Network Engineering, or a related technical field
7+ years supporting carrier-grade fiber optic networks, DWDM/CWDM systems, or large enterprise optical environments
Support certifications such as CWNP, Cisco CCNP Routing & Switching, or carrier-specific technical certifications preferred
Proven experience supporting dark fiber remediation, high-capacity high-availability optical networks, and fiber diagnostics supported by industry standards
