What is the opportunity?

The RBC Commercial Banking Team is hiring a Vice President Corporate Banking Financial Institutions.  You will effectively manage a portfolio of corporate clients primarily comprised of regional Financial Institutions for example Banks, Credit Unions, Insurance companies.  You also manage a transaction pipeline through well executed sales routines, taking responsibility for portfolio growth, portfolio quality and the overall relationship strategy.  Your goal is to deliver advice that ‘help clients better their financial position, build enterprise value and improve overall business performance. In this role you leverage your skills as a financial consultant, collaborating with partners to deliver business solutions to target corporate clients, on Debt Financing, Underwriting, and other corporate strategies. 

What will you do?

  • Develop trusted regional and market networks to enable acquisition and expansion of target client relationships.
  • Serve as the Centre of Expertise for Financial Institutions credit structuring, ensuring transactions are appropriately structured, approved, and funded within established timelines.
  • Create and deliver a superior client experience to each client through careful pre-call research and planning, a ‘consulting’ approach, and regular client relationship reviews
  • Provide proactive and customized business and financial advice, demonstrating a deep understanding of your clients’ business and industry
  • Perform client due diligence along with financial, industry, and risk analysis to identify, assess and mitigate transaction and portfolio risks.
  • Work in close partnership with the Commercial Banking support team to ensure superior onboarding experiences and to develop innovative borrowing structures that meet and exceed client needs and expectations, proactively identifying, referring and fulfilling on new opportunities as appropriate.
  • Lead ongoing communication and interface with all appropriate business and functional partners in ensuring the smooth and seamless delivery of services to clients
  • Ensure consistent use of Contact Management strategies, Sales Routines, Client Strategy documents to promote volume and revenue growth, client loyalty and retention

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • BSc in Business, Finance, Banking or equivalent qualifications
  • Minimum seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in a Corporate/Commercial banking or advisory environment with exposure to financial institutional clients
  • Technically competent in the areas of finance, accounting, KYC, market dynamics and positioning for various industries, global dynamics and capital optimization.
  • Good leadership and demonstrated communication and sales management practices
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills and the ability to execute transactions from start to finish
  • Strong Communication and negotiation skills
  • Champion high standards of professionalism throughout all levels of engagement from prospecting to selection and close.

Nice-to-have

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), CFA, or pursuing relevant post graduate education.
  • Exposure to cross-border or multi-jurisdictional Financial Institutions portfolios
  • Familiarity with digital banking and cash management solutions that enhance client outcomes
  • Awareness of emerging financial regulations, market trends, and technology developments impacting financial institutions clients
