Job Description:

We’re looking for a Group Underwriter to join our team! This role is responsible for analyzing group characteristics, benefits, and plan design in order to appropriately price and win new group business or retain existing business. This role will involve analyzing the rating information, assessing the group’s specific risk characteristics, as well as delivering clear, accurate, and complete quotes to our Manulife Account Executives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze group characteristics, benefits, and plan designs.

  • Analyze premium and claims information to appropriately price new business.

  • Provide underwriting decisions through clear verbal and written communications.

  • Conduct constructive negotiations utilizing underwriting judgment and guidelines.

  • Evaluate and act on risk propositions.

  • Accurately price new and existing business opportunities.

  • Provide value added underwriting and benefit recommendations to maximize the clients' group benefit spend.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree holder preferably in applied mathematics and statistics.

  • CEBS, GBA certification is encouraged and recommended.

  • With at least one-year relevant experience in group underwriting.

  • Understanding of the Group Insurance market, products and services

  • Excellent comprehension, analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to make well-balanced decisions that take effective risk management, financial discipline, and customer needs into account.

  • Motivated self-starter and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills with proficiency in Excel (data manipulation such as pivot tables) and Word

  • Amenability to work on a hybrid set up and on a night shift schedule.
