As a Staff Software Engineer you will be tasked to join on Prem Team.We are building and scaling SentinelOne's self-hosted (On-Prem) console, and we're looking for a Staff backend software engineer to provide technical leadership for the On-Prem team.

As our new colleague, you should be excited about setting technical direction for systems that customers run in their own environments — from air-gapped data centers to private clouds. You should love taking an active role, be comfortable diving into complex, large-scale distributed systems, and enjoy owning the architecture, reliability, upgradeability, and operability of software that ships outside of SentinelOne's own infrastructure. As a Staff engineer, you will influence technical strategy across multiple teams and mentor engineers at all levels.

What will you do?

Primary responsibilities include:

• Set technical direction — Define the architecture and technical roadmap for the On-Prem console, aligning multiple squads of backend and frontend engineers around a coherent long-term vision.
• Drive complex initiatives end-to-end — Lead the most ambiguous, cross-cutting projects from problem framing through production, in self-hosted, constrained, air-gapped, and on-prem environments.
• Own the platform's architecture — Make foundational design decisions across the On-Prem console, choosing patterns and technologies for scale, reliability, upgradeability, and performance, and establishing the standards others build on.
• Own operability and lifecycle at scale — Shape packaging, deployment, patching, and upgrade strategy (e.g., OS upgrades, infrastructure components) that keep self-hosted customers secure and current.
• Multiply the team — Mentor and grow engineers, raise the engineering bar through design and code reviews, and serve as a force multiplier across the organization.
• See your impact — Your work directly improves how customers deploy, operate, and trust SentinelOne in their own environments, making it a visible part of key company initiatives.

What skills & knowledge should you bring?

Ideal candidates will have:

Core Engineering

• 8+ years' backend-development experience, including a track record of technical leadership on large-scale systems.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Go, Python.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Experience working with both RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
• Solid experience with unit and integration testing practices.

Distributed Systems & Architecture

• Proven experience designing distributed systems — partitioning, consistency, and availability trade-offs.
• Proven experience architecting high-performance, microservices-based backend systems at scale.
• Hands-on with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as Kafka.
• Experience with high-scale API design, database design and sharding, and resilience patterns (e.g., circuit breakers).
• Deep understanding of operating systems and networking fundamentals.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Hands-on experience with at least one public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with Docker and Docker Compose.

Leadership & Soft Skills

• Strong ownership mindset — takes accountability for outcomes, not just tasks, from design through production and incident resolution.
• Proven cross-team influence — drives alignment and technical decisions without formal authority.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to their career growth.
• Comfortable with ambiguity — breaks down unclear problems and delivers under uncertainty.
• Excellent communication skills — translates technical complexity into business context and leads projects in a hybrid and/or remote team.

• Open-source contributions.
• Experience working with AI coding agents / agentic development workflows.
• Experience architecting software for on-prem, self-hosted, or air-gapped deployments.
• Hands-on experience with the Kafka ecosystem (Kafka Pub/Sub, Kafka Connect, etc.).
