Computational Biology - Principal Scientist

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will analyze clinical biomarker data across a range of platforms, including but not limited to flow cytometry, immunoassays, transcriptomics, proteomics, spatial-omics, and other biomarker assays. This high-visibility role will contribute to advancing Amgen’s clinical programs and studies by integrating computational biology and bioinformatics techniques with biological and clinical data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop clinical biomarker analysis plans to support evidence generation, precision medicine during clinical development of therapeutic molecules.

  • Design and execute workflows for biomarker data analysis, integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, spatial and other omics modalities to support Amgen's early and late clinical development programs.

  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of clinical biomarker data from various assay platforms, including flow cytometry, immunoassays, transcriptomics, proteomics, and spatial-omics.

  • Design and implement computational algorithms to analyze multi-omics, multi-modal, and high-content data, with applications in target engagement evaluation, patient stratification, response prediction, indication selection, assay development, and diagnostic development.

  • Work closely with clinical scientists and biomarker leads, to extract biological insights from high-dimensional datasets and integrate them into reverse translational research and clinical development plans.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with early development teams, biostatistics, clinical pharmacology, clinical biomarker leads, and research teams to manage data integration, analysis, and presentation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable] and 2 years of scientific research experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 5 years of scientific research experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of scientific research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in analyzing multi-modal, multi-dimensional, and large-scale biological data.

  • PhD, PharmD, or MD with 4 years of scientific research experience

  • Hands-on experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI applied to clinical biomarker data.

  • Experience with analysis of spatial omics datasets

  • Background in inflammation and/or rare diseases

  • Proficiency in Python and R programming, with familiarity in various principles for data manipulation and visualization.

  • Strong understanding of platforms used in clinical biomarker research, including flow cytometry, immunoassays, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and proteomics.

  • Knowledge of immunology, autoimmune diseases, or oncology, and how computational biology can drive drug discovery in these areas.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex data analyses in multiple settings, including cross-functional team meetings, external collaborations, and scientific publications.

  • Prior experience working in a matrixed biotech or pharmaceutical setting.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
