In this role you will provide legal and commercial input with a focus on supply chain management and capital projects. You will manage a diverse, fast-paced, and dynamic workload and use your social and communication skills to build and maintain strong relationships across the legal affairs teams. You will use your negotiation and solid decision-making abilities to meet exciting challenges in your role as Legal Counsel with Canada's leading energy company.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Juris Doctor degree or LLB or equivalent and membership in Law Society of Alberta

  • Minimum 2 to a maximum of 4 years of broad legal experience in private practice or an in-house environment

  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial and other forms of agreements

  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry or experience with construction and procurement would be considered an asset

  • Innovative and creative problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated ability to work towards achieving a desired business outcome within corporate and legal parameters

  • Solid legal and business discernment

  • A high degree of flexibility and the ability to readily adapt to changes in our business priorities and plans


Responsibilities:

  • Draft contracts, templates, policies, communications

  • Provide legal support to internal clients during the preparation, review and negotiation of transactions 

  • Identify and manage areas of legal risk

  • Deliver legal advice, services and training

  • Understand and address issues, needs and desired outcomes while handling legal, commercial, and other matters

  • Advise on and manage significant claims, litigation

  • Contribute to innovation in effective and efficient business processes


Location and other Key Details:

  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work

  • This is an office-based role; you will work out of our Calgary head office located in the Suncor Energy Centre (150 – 6th Ave SW)

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended on-call work hours based on business needs
