The Operations Manager for National Workers Compensation Self-Insurance is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the self insured workers compensation program.

This role involves ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, managing claims processing, optimising operational efficiency, and ensuring all relevant contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Critical Performance Indicators (CPIs) are met to support the organisation’s goals in providing effective claims management and employee support.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Oversee the national workers compensation self-insurance program.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance program efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Claims Management:

  • Monitor the claims process from initiation to resolution, ensuring timely and accurate handling.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess claims and implement strategies for resolution.

  • Analyse claims data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a team of claims and operations staff.

  • Foster a collaborative work environment that promotes professional development.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on program performance, claims trends, and operational metrics, including KPI and CPI achievements, to senior management.

  • Utilise data analytics to drive decision-making and improve program outcomes.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding the self-insurance program.

  • Build relationships with service providers, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.

  • Stay informed of industry trends and regulatory changes affecting workers compensation.

Key Skills & Experience  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Risk Management, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers compensation management or related field.

  • Proven track record in claims management and operations oversight.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in relevant software and data management tools.

  • Ability to work with different IT applications.

  • Understanding of challenges for individuals.

  • Excellent communication on both written and verbal 

  • Well-rounded customer service‎ skills with demonstrated outcomes

  • Customer relationship skills with stakeholders such as large employers, brokers, and regulatory authorities.
