Reporting Relationship
The role reports to the Head of Group Brand and CX.
The UX / UI Design Lead will work alongside brand colleagues, digital product owners, local country marketing functions, insight and analytics colleagues to identify and deliver a design led (digital) customer experience that is rooted in our brand promises.
Key Responsibilities
Key tasks and priorities include:
Brand CX
Work alongside the central Brand team and local Marketing teams to understand the BMI brand promises
Identify how these brand promises can be delivered across our digital products in terms of user and customer experience, identifying differences in experience across multiple brands
Support the Group Brand Manager in maintenance of the brand guidelines (on and offline) as required
Customer champion and user experience
Champion the use of customer insight to inform decisions, ensuring that there is a clear rationale for the teams’ work
Champion the use of design thinking techniques where appropriate
Lead the User Experience team, mentoring team members and ensuring that all designers are producing effective project materials including UI design and prototypes.
Manage workflow for the team, ensuring that project goals are clear to designers and that all deadlines are met (picking up design tasks when required)
Embed a culture of ‘customer first’ thinking for digital products
Work closely with Product Owners, and the Digital analytics team to identify, iterate and test UX improvements and measure the effectiveness of UX
Deep dive into existing user interactions and evaluate feedback
Design and UI
Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineers
Conceptualise original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design challenges
Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive-level stakeholders
Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards
Lead the creation of the digital and offline design guidelines, design system and user guides which are used across multiple product scrum teams, local marketing teams and external agencies
Design resource and design tools/ software supplier management
Working alongside colleagues in the Digital and marketing teams to shape initial project requirements and ongoing strategic UX direction
Working alongside colleagues in Group marketing, create and refine design concepts to support marketing led projects
Present designs to project teams and key stakeholders, making clear reasoning behind decisions
Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards
Manage the creation, testing and improvement of UX and UI design prototypes to support efficient use of development resource
Prototyping
Take responsibility for the creation of prototypes (on and offline) for new concepts, including visualisation to help leaders understand options and implications
Obtain user feedback (internal and external) to improve and refine design concepts
Professional Experience & Qualifications
3+ years experience in managing or leading a design team
A strong, well-curated portfolio demonstrating UX expertise (and an ability to talk through projects outlining involvement and value)
Prior involvement in design projects in a commercial environment
Experience of working with developers and product owners to deliver products and features in an Agile/Scrum development process
Proficient communicator with ability to prioritise own, as well as team's workload
Competent with industry standard software; Adobe XD and Figma
Working knowledge of heat mapping and session recording tools used to analyse user behaviours.
Ability to use both quant and qual insight to inform decision-making
Ability to be flexible, and adapt to changing priorities within projects
Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively using design thinking methodology

Can demonstrate an understanding of core UX principles and how these influence and guide great UI design decisions
Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal, combined with the ability to work across diverse cultures
