About the Role

Join The Walt Disney Company as a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) and help shape the future of data infrastructure across our global enterprise. As part of the central Database Systems Engineering team, you’ll support mission-critical data services and platforms that power Disney’s corporate applications, internet sites, and internal development teams.

This role focuses on both on-premise and cloud-based systems, with a strong emphasis on NoSQL and analytical platforms such as MongoDB and Snowflake. It’s ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about building scalable, resilient, and automated data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and optimize Snowflake cloud data warehouses and MongoDB document databases.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of data platforms supporting operational and business processes.
  • Automate routine database tasks (e.g., backups, restores, schema changes, scaling) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Chef.
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Collaborate with application teams, cloud architects, and DevOps engineers to deploy reliable and scalable data solutions.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing for Snowflake and MongoDB environments.
  • Maintain system documentation, operational runbooks, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Participate in CI/CD pipelines to deploy database changes in a controlled, automated manner.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing Snowflake and MongoDB databases.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing scalable data models for business and analytical use cases.
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like Airflow, dbt, or similar frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation.
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write, tune, and maintain queries for large-scale datasets.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and infrastructure-as-code/configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef).
  • Demonstrated ability to implement automated scaling and performance optimization for Snowflake and MongoDB.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills specific to NoSQL and cloud data workloads.
  • Familiarity with observability tools for monitoring cloud and NoSQL platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Streamlit for building interactive data applications and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks.
  • Advanced documentation and diagramming skills for database architecture.
  • Knowledge of additional NoSQL platforms (e.g., Cassandra, NeptuneDB, DynamoDB, Couchbase).
  • A customer-focused mindset with the ability to align technical solutions to business needs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
