Job Summary:
The Retail Pharmacist shall plan, organize, and supervise all pharmaceutical and financial activities occurring in his/her respective pharmacy. Such proceedings shall comply with the policies and procedures established by the WellStar Health System, federal, state and local laws governing the practice of pharmacy, and the rules and standards established by the regulatory agencies (e.g. JACHO, Medicare, etc) involved in provision of health care. He/She shall function under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services. Participates in policy and procedure development regarding improvements, and departmental operating systems and procedures. Responsible for Control Medication Storage and Tracking to Include, but not limited to: outdate tracking, pharmacy's inventory, controlled substance inventory control. Maintains quality control and safety reports needed to support effective operations. Will comply with OBRA90 and provide directions and instructions to patients and family members seeking information on prescription drugs. Will oversee Pharmacy Technician and their daily duties.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Oversight and Implementation of Pharmacy Daily Operations that includes:
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of liquid medicines, ointments, powders, tablets and other medications
- Checks prescriptions for correct dosage and for drug interactions and incompatibilities
- Compounds prescribed medicines, and packages and labels them
- Stores and preserves vaccines, serums and other drugs subject to deterioration
- Dispenses medical and surgical products as prescribed
- Records prescriptions dispensed, and the issue of poisons, narcotics and other restricted drugs
- Provides advice and information on the use and effects of medications
- Sells non-prescription drugs, sick-room supplies, toiletries, cosmetics and related commercial products
- Interpret and fill physicians prescriptions for customers on a daily basis
- Verify all patient information before filling a prescription
- Provide medicinal consultation to customers upon filling a prescription and on OTC (over the counter) medicines as required
- Perform order entry of prescriptions into the required pharmacy database
- Contact physicians and benefits providers as necessary to process a prescription
- Complete third-party insurance forms and other paperwork
- Provide a professional and confidential environment for customers on all occasions
- Compound medications when necessary
- Supervises pharmacy personnel in their duties.
- Establishes work schedule to provide sufficient personnel to meet the needs of the facility ( as approved by WellStars Senior Management and Board through the budgetary process). Regulatory Compliance:
- Controlled Substance:
- Supervises the audits and monitoring to include but not limited to the following: all Controlled Substance Outstanding Transactions, accurate documentation entry of controlled substances received from the manufacture/wholesaler in to pharmacys perpetual inventory system, and all Open Discrepancies and reporting to the Director, or CEO if necessary. (per protocol)
- Ensures outdated Narcotics are correctly inventoried and packaged for return using all required forms.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and State rules and regulations that pertain to the scope of practice of a retail pharmacy. Education/ Communications
- Interacts with prescribers and various nursing staff to ensure business growth and capture of discharged patients from hospital floors, as well as surgery.
- Embodies a positive and professional attitude at all times to help advocate the benefits of retail pharmacy services and the convenience that it provides both to employees and patients.

Required Minimum Education:
B.S. Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:
Knowledgeable of computerized retail pharmacy systems Preferred and
Exposure / experience in all phases of pharmacy operations, e.g. medication order interpretation, inventory management, etc.
Required and
Familiar with retail pharmacy marketing strategies.
Required
