About the Team
The Returns engineering team is looking for engineers who love writing and owning code and enjoy working with people who will keep challenging them at every stage. We value strong problem-solving skills, a self-driven motivation, and the desire to work in a fast-paced, results-driven agile environment focusing on robust Java microservices and cloud-native architectures.
What You’ll Do
Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers in designing and building cutting-edge e-commerce solutions using Java and modern frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
Develop and oversee the long-term strategy, technical design, and architectural decisions for the team, ensuring optimal JVM performance and system scalability.
Drive software development processes including Java coding standards, rigorous code reviews, testing, and operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, product management, and other stakeholders to define, design, and ship new features.
Coach and mentor team members in their professional development while fostering an environment of innovation, specifically nurturing advanced Java engineering skills.
What You’ll Bring
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of software development experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
A proven track record of managing and delivering large-scale projects, preferably in an e-commerce retail environment.
Deep technical expertise and strong hands-on coding skills in Java (Java 8/11/17+), Spring/Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and a solid understanding of JVM internals, concurrency, and memory management.
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills with experience in Agile development.
A desire to keep up with technology trends in the Java ecosystem, encourage growth in others, and strong problem-solving skills.
