Position Overview

The Manager, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective HSE management systems, policies, and programs to ensure a safe and healthy workplace at Alcon. This role provides strategic leadership and guidance on HSE matters, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Alcon’s internal standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards relating to workplace health, safety, and environment.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Provide expert advice and support to management and staff on HSE matters, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Coordinate incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting, ensuring lessons learned are shared and corrective actions completed.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, preparing regular reports for senior leadership.
  • Manage relationships with external regulatory bodies and participate in industry forums as required.
  • Promote environmental sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar HSE management role, preferably within the healthcare, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian HSE legislation and standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and drive cultural change regarding safety and environment.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Cert IV in Work Health and Safety, Lead Auditor) are highly regarded.
