The Occupational Therapist evaluates patients, establishes functional goals and treatment programs, treats patients according to diagnosis utilizing therapeutic modalities and procedures as prescribed, supervises and delegates tasks to supportive personnel, maintains appropriate records using departmental documentation (EHR), communicates patients progress to physicians and other health care workers as indicated, meets department productivity expectations, accepts responsibility for personal and professional growth and performs other duties as assigned.

This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.

Pay Range: $29.96-$49.25/hour

Employment Type: Limited Hours, Averaging 16 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule: Varies

Requirements: BS in Occupational Therapy, Current certification as Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) or current certification for Hand Therapist, Current licensure as Occupational Therapist in the State of Michigan.

Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification (or completed within 60 days of hire).

Clinical Evaluation and Treatment                 

  • Chooses appropriate and up to date evaluation tests and tools relevant to diagnosis and reason for referral.
  • Develops goals and treatment plans appropriately.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and effective use of, appropriate therapeutic techniques throughout the course of treatment.
  • Performs appropriate evaluation and treatments with interdisciplinary rehab team based on thorough medical chart review; including physical therapy and speech pathology, in order to provide comprehensive treatment for acute care and placement needs.
     

Patient Management                                                 

  • Assumes complete responsibility over the course of therapy for patient management from the time of initial contact to discharge for functional progress, safety and treatment outcome as evidenced by team feedback and documentation.
  • Addresses discharge planning needs from initial evaluation to discharge as evidenced by team feedback and documentation.
  • Adapts the therapy treatment program as needed to respond to changes in the patient status and input from medical and rehab team.
  • Provides efficient communication with all members of the patient’s medical, care management, and nursing team in order to provide efficient and effective care based on ongoing changes in patient status and needs.

Documentation                                                           

  • Documents clearly, concisely and completely, including all essential elements according to department policy. 
  • Adheres to department policy regarding timeframe, form and content of written evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries.  Including the IPPJ format for all assessments.
  • Completes discharge notes that include a summary of the course of treatment, progress toward goals, discharge needs,
  • Documents evidence of patient and family/caregiver education as evidenced by chart Rehab Team Participation                            
  • Works as a resource in any area of specialty, assisting with complex patients and planning for, and adjusting treatment programs as needed.
  • Assist in developing educational and training resources for the rehab department associated with any continued education or areas of special skill.
  • Maintains efficient use of work time to be as productive as possible.
  • Completes routine administrative responsibilities within established timeframe consistently (e.g. time cards, PTO requests, etc).
  • Participates in committees, focus groups etc, department processes and special projects in accordance with clinical expertise and individual performance plan.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the department with respect to patient charges, equipment use, and supplies.
