What part will you play?

  • GAF Energy is seeking an Equipment Engineer who will work on installation, maintenance, and optimization of process equipment for building the next generation of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products. You will report to the Director, Manufacturing Engineering, and work cross-functionally to support various types of equipment in Manufacturing. You will join a highly focused team that thrives in a start-up, fast-paced environment. This person will be part of the team that is responsible for manufacturing and delivery of high quality, high-volume photovoltaic solar technology solutions that will transform today’s roofs. The role will focus on creative problem-solving and collaborative work necessary to ramp products from laboratory scale to high-volume manufacturing.

What will you do?

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend the selection of tools in an assigned area which will improve yield and lower operational cost.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to develop and evaluate process equipment and toolings.

  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers on design and qualification activities. 

  • Work with cross-functional teams on equipment PO generation, logistics, and installation.

  • Create equipment maintenance instruction and train production personnel. 

  • Coordinate, track, and prioritize tool maintenance to ensure maximum tool up-time; ensures that all tools are maintained per the established schedule and within specification.

  • Read and follow manuals, diagrams, and schematics for equipment operation, repairs, and maintenance.

  • Respond to equipment and tool issues to resolve problems and minimize downtime.

  • Develop spare part list and tool recovery plans.

  • Investigate and implement corrective actions to prevent repetitive breakdown.

  • Establish process control for critical process parameters and optimize process capability.

  • Validate and characterize new equipment and tools for production implementation.

  • Perform root cause analysis on critical issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.

  • Lead or participate in activities pertaining to workflow and process improvements.

  • Develop cost reduction initiatives by effective utilization of materials and resources.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What do we require from you?

  • BS/MS Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience as an equipment or maintenance engineer.

  • Knowledge and ability to research, evaluate, order, install, maintain, and upgrade various types of equipment, tools, or tool sets.

  • Experience working with equipment suppliers and new tools brought up is a plus.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent applications.

  • Ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software programs to create schematics or drawings. 

  • Familiar with Tool Tracking System.

  • Proven understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, and improvement methodologies.

  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing expansions and ramp-ups.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations.

  • Impeccable attention to detail, a process-oriented mindset, and excellent time management skills.
