Atlas is our next-generation humanoid robot, built for real-world speed, strength, and precision. We're looking for a principal motor designer to lead the design and optimization of the custom motors that drive its actuators—pushing the limits of performance while scaling towards mass production. 

What you’ll do:

  • Design and optimize motors for performance, efficiency, and manufacturability.

  • Run electromagnetic, thermal, and structural simulations to guide design decisions.

  • Collaborate heavily with mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams on actuator design. 

  • Trade and specify motor topologies, materials, winding strategies, and cooling methods. 

  • Support fast prototyping, validation, and iteration. 

What we’re looking for:

  • 7+ years of experience in motor design or optimization. 

  • Deep understanding of electromagnetics, loss mechanisms, and scaling laws.

  • Proficiency with motor simulation tools e.g. JMAG, ANSYS Maxwell, FEMM, etc. 

  • Strong mechanical and electrical designer with good intuition for multidisciplinary trades. 

  • Experience with motor manufacturing and cost-performance tradeoffs. 

  • Bonus: background in robotics or other compact electromechanical systems.
