As a Telesitter Technician, you will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients through the use of the telemonitoring system. Your first line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors and summoning the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. It’s vital that you remain knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the telesitter software.
  • Maintains visual observation at all times.  Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.  Immediately escalates nursing personnel if patient requires assistance or when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to patient population based on individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN.
  • Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving to monitoring area and upon completion of shift assignment.  Arranges break times and informs staff prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Performs environmental/safety check as required.
  • Collaborates with members of the health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and the overall functioning of the unit.
  • Collaborates with personnel in nursing and supportive services in assuring a safe and clean patient environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to empathize with patients suffering from physical or emotional difficulties.
  • Demonstrates respect for individuals' cultural and social differences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High school graduate or GED.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • Completion of a hospital based patient companion training program or equivalent experience preferred.
  • In lieu of experience, candidates may also be currently enrolled at an accredited school of nursing, with completion of a nursing fundamentals course or have completed hospital based NA/PC orientation or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure, multi-task with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients and requires long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors.
  • Visual acuity for observing telesitter monitor data.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
