What this job involves: The Data Center Break/Fix Lead Technician oversees hardware repair and troubleshooting operations within a mission-critical data center environment. As the senior onsite escalation point, you'll provide technical expertise, ensure SLA compliance, mentor junior technicians, and maintain the highest level of system uptime through efficient incident resolution and preventive practices while managing vendor relationships and standardizing break/fix processes. 

Your day-to-day tasks will include: 

  • Serve as the top-tier onsite escalation point for complex break/fix issues involving servers, networking, and storage hardware  

  • Lead major incident responses and coordinate technical leadership during system outages and critical failures  

  • Guide, mentor, and provide technical training for Break/Fix Technicians I–III while assigning and prioritizing daily work orders  

  • Maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for break/fix activities and ensure compliance with ITSM workflows  

  • Act as primary contact for OEM vendors (Dell, HPE, Cisco, etc.) for advanced support escalations and coordinate with internal teams  

  • Oversee spare parts inventory management and track repair performance metrics including MTTR and incident volume  

  • Perform quality checks on technician repairs, documentation, and ticket closure to maintain operational standards 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related technical field, or equivalent experience  

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center hardware repair and troubleshooting operations  

  • Advanced knowledge of server, networking, and storage hardware from major OEMs (Dell, HPE, Cisco, etc.)  

  • Proven leadership experience mentoring technical teams and managing escalation processes in mission-critical environments  

  • Strong understanding of ITSM frameworks, change management processes, and SLA compliance requirements  

  • Experience with incident response, root cause analysis, and performance metrics tracking  

  • Ability to work in 24/7 operational environment including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, or vendor-specific certifications (Dell, HPE, Cisco)  

  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and monitoring systems  

  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and change management best practices  

  • Previous experience in large-scale hardware refresh, migration, or decommission projects  

  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and spare parts optimization  

  • Strong documentation and reporting skills with experience presenting to management 

  • Background in preventive maintenance programs and continuous improvement initiatives
