Job Summary:

This role is responsible for overseeing the governance, execution, and strategic alignment of IT projects. This role ensures IT initiatives support patient care, research, education, and administrative functions while complying with regulatory requirements. The position leads a team of project managers, establishes project management best practices, and ensures successful project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline constraints.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of IT project management experience


Certifications, Licenses, or Registration Required: 

Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to small and large groups. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and direct the work of others to do the same. Ability to review data and manage financial information in order to identify and recommend improvements or changes. Ability to respond appropriately to sensitive and confidential data. Ability to research information, analyze data, and exercise independent judgement.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IT project management methodologies tailored to an academic healthcare environment, balancing clinical, research, and administrative IT needs.

  • Align IT projects with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to healthcare, research, and education regulations.

  • Establish governance, risk management, and quality assurance standards while driving process improvements and best practices in IT project management.

  • Oversee a portfolio of IT projects, including EHR implementations, enterprise resource planning, research informatics, cybersecurity, and infrastructure modernization.

  • Monitor project performance, manage risks, resolve issues, and ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and financial oversight.

  • Lead and mentor a team of IT project managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Provide training and guidance on project management best practices, Agile methodologies, and emerging healthcare IT trends.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between IT teams, clinicians, researchers, educators, and hospital administrators to ensure project success.

  • Engage with external vendors and technology partners to manage contracts, system integrations, and performance expectations.

  • Serve as a liaison between IT and interdisciplinary teams, translating complex technical concepts into actionable strategies for clinical and academic stakeholders.
