AES Clean Energy (AES) is currently seeking an Analyst to assist in evaluating AES’ current and future markets for solar, wind, energy storage, and new technologies, within the United States. This role will be part of our Growth Strategy Team. The person in this position will be responsible for synthesizing internal and external data and analysis to build strategies for success for each market where we operate, with a focus on building tools to evaluate AES’ competitiveness in these markets.

This position can be remote or based at one of our U.S. offices. The role requires modest travel, as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross-functional team and interact with AES commercial, project development, finance, policy, transmission, and other teams, as well as outside consultants, RTO operators, state utility regulators, local community authorities, and utility companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Regional Lead to develop and implement Market Plans
  • Conduct deep research into solar, wind, and storage projects in order to create a multidisciplinary and detailed picture of the competitive landscape in key markets
  • Identify market opportunities for growth and areas where AES can improve competitiveness
  • Synthesize and understand data and research from a variety of sources, including RTO/ISOs, industry news, market intelligence platforms, local jurisdictions, and state regulators, including both desktop research and direct conversations with external parties
  • Maintain reliable and organized databases of information that can easily work with the Growth Strategy Team’s tools and other tools at AES Clean Energy, including presentations, dashboards, and financial models
  • Use GIS platforms to assist in research tasks and optimally visualize geospatial data
  • Create data visualizations and streamline the pipeline from analysis to presentation

Skills And Qualifications

  • Deep personal drive and approaches work as collaborative team member
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field, business, environmental science, OR relevant work experience in an analytical and research-oriented role
  • Passion for the energy transition and renewable energy
  • Basic knowledge of clean energy fundamentals including project development, energy markets, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and contracting
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with GIS platforms, especially Google Earth and QGIS or ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in data/statistics and visualization tools such as R, Tableau, or other tools preferred
  • Additional preference for candidates with experience collaborating with Web APIs or using database tools such as Google Cloud Platform and PowerBI
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and explain complex topics in a concise manner
  • Approaches new challenges and problems with a problem-solving mentality and is always ready to learn a new skill to reach team goals
