About SimpliSafe

We’re a high-tech home security company that’s passionate about protecting the life you’ve built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we’ve created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you’re building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don’t just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.

We’re embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday and Wednesday, working together in person and choosing where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

Why are we hiring?

Well, we’re growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we disrupt the home security space and relentlessly pursue our mission of keeping Every Home Secure.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Manager on our Operations Engineering team, you’ll assume leadership of new projects and build solutions from inception through to production - from design, development, testing, and deployment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Directly manage a small team of developers
  • Hire and grow world-class people for your team.
  • Collaborate with product owners to translate business requirements into platform capabilities that deliver value for our customers - both now and in the future.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the team. Ensure continuous delivery of customer value. Maintain a high level of technical excellence and reliability by working directly with your team every sprint.
  • Help create a technical vision that maximizes security for our customers and flexibility for our business. Guide your team to deliver on that vision.
  • Hands-on: Not afraid to roll up your sleeves and contribute to the codebase

What You’ll Bring

  • The ideal candidate has experience leading agile teams and a passion for developing people and acting as a force multiplier, while having the technical strength to get in the weeds and accurately assess and grow team and individual performance.
  • Be collaborative by nature
  • Be adept at building consensus to solve technical and organizational challenges
  • Enjoy challenges and problem solving, helping to scale your team’s work and accelerate delivery via continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of REST, GraphQL, and modern web technologies
  • Experience designing and implementing backend services and APIs
  • Demonstrated experience with frontend implementations in modern web frameworks
  • Comfort participating in code reviews, writing documentation, and architecting and presenting software solutions
  • Familiarity building and running scalable and fault tolerant cloud based microservices using AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • 10+ years of professional full-stack software development experience
  • 5+ years of people management experience

Nice to Have Skills

  • E-Commerce experience including platforms like Commercetools or Shopify
  • Experience with Node.js frameworks such as NestJS
  • Infrastructure as code and DevOps experience such as Terraform or CDK
  • Knowledge of containerization including Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS
  • Experience with Contentful or other content management systems
  • Automation testing experience with tools like Cypress

  • Lean & Nimble - working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often-ambiguous environment.

We wholeheartedly embrace and actively seek applications from all individuals, no matter how they identify. We are committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we believe our work is enriched when we incorporate a multitude of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. We want everyone who works here to thrive and contribute to not only our mission of keeping every home secure, but also to making our workplace safe and supportive for others.
