As a Data Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of data engineers and architects in delivering robust, scalable, and secure data solutions that support strategic initiatives across Aviva’s complex data estate. You will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who can inspire a diverse team, exceed expectations, and champion innovation in a fast-paced, Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers and architects delivering services to stakeholders in the UK.

  • Provide strategic direction and hands-on technical guidance to ensure high-quality delivery.

  • Foster team development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful execution.

  • Drive adoption of modern data engineering practices, tools, and technologies.

  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience managing technical teams in data engineering or software development.

  • Technical awareness and understanding of the data engineering technologies such as:

  • SQL, Python, Spark

  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software engineering principles.

  • Experience working in cross-functional, multinational teams.

  • Proven ability to provide both strategic and technical leadership.

  • Calm and structured approach to high-pressure situations, including incident response and risk mitigation.

  • Strong ownership of deliverables with a focus on customer satisfaction, quality, risk management and continuous improvement.
