Job Description

Freese and Nichols is seeking a BIM/CAD Designer to join our Dallas, Texas office.  This position will focus on design of linear utilities, pump stations and treatment plants for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.  Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

At a Project Level

  • Understands project requirements, scope of work, and deliverables.
  • Understands the wholistic view of the project and may make independent project level decisions that are trusted by the engineers.
  • May provide conceptual input to projects during the planning stages.
  • Prepares detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.
  • Performs discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concept with limited input and direction from the engineer.
  • Engages with team members in a professional, responsive, and collaborative manner.
  • Coordinates design with other disciplines and coordinates work sharing within team.
  • Ensures output is professional, consistent with prevailing standards and satisfies project requirements.
  • Performs BIM/CAD quality control on deliverables and incorporates Continuous Improvement into work processes.
  • May delegate and supervise tasks assigned to other Designers and Technicians.

At a Company Level

  • Utilizes company best practices to set up, maintain, and utilize drawing files in accordance with company CAD Standards.
  • May participate in company BIM/CAD practice group meetings and provide feedback on processes to assist in improving company standards.
  • Acts as liaison between company CAD Managers and company CAD users to ensure company policies and new technologies are being implemented by all local users.
  • Participates in interviewing other positions on this ladder and makes hiring recommendations.
  • May manage local CAD libraries for discipline.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years with a broad base in engineering design and technical support of engineering utilizing BIM/CAD software.
  • Advanced expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D including experience with alignments, pipe networks, surfaces, and data management.
  • Proven ability to learn, adapt, and problem solve to produce accurate and quality deliverables. Ability to work with all levels of personnel.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
