Yahoo’s IT Corporate Applications team is responsible for developing and maintaining an integrated, scalable corporate application architecture that enables business process automation, improved operational efficiencies, and better management insights for Yahoo globally. 

As part of Yahoo’s Global CIO organization, the Corporate Application team is strategically aligned with business partners across Yahoo (i.e.) Customer Advocacy, Marketing, Finance, HR, Customer Care, Legal, Custom Engineering, Products, and other G&A groups to enable business process solutions and management reporting platforms. This team provides engineering & operations support to large-scale enterprise business systems, employee-facing productivity/communication tools, and platforms that power Yahoo’s internal processes. 

Job Responsibilities/The Role/The Job 

The position is for a Software Apps Engineer II (MicroStrategy Developer). As a Business Intelligence developer in the BI Team, your primary responsibilities will include design, development, support and maintenance of our automated business intelligence products. You will Identify business requirements, design processes that leverage/adapt the business logic and regularly communicate with business stakeholders to ensure delivery meets business needs.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Experience designing, developing and implementing MicroStrategy V10.X reporting solutions or later version
  • Demonstrated experience in modelling metadata and creating complex schema objects, and developing integrated data sets and intelligent cubes from multiple data sources
  • Experience with interactive/dynamic report and dashboard development, and leveraging all visualization and functionality options available in MicroStrategy
  • Hands on development experience with MicroStrategy development tools including Architect, Desktop/Workstation, Web, Mobile, Object Manager, Enterprise Manager/Platform Analytics and Command Manager
  • Partner with Business stakeholders with the goal of providing them with the ability to make decisions and gain insights through data visualization.
  • Advance SQL understanding, to write SQL queries  to do data mining that can then be communicated or translated to peer ETL developers for database development
  • Functional knowledge of ETL tools (e.g. DataStage, Informatica) to move, manipulate and structure data in a manner that facilitates optimized analytics in MicroStrategy 
  • Excellent knowledge of RDBMS, SQL and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience and desire to work in a Global delivery environment
  • Familiarity with Agile (Scrum) project methodology and practices 
  • Strong Analytical skills

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • BS/MS Degree in Data Engineering, Information Technology, CIS, CS, or related field or experience
  • 7+ years of related work experience including 3 years of MicroStrategy experience
  • Strong experience on Schema objects like Logical tables, Attributes, Facts, Hierarchies etc.
  • Strong experience on Public objects like Metrics, Filter, Prompts, Custom Groups, Consolidations, Reports, Documents and Dashboards
  • Familiarity with operating system, relational databases and data sources MicroStrategy connects.
  • Familiar with MicroStrategy Administration Tasks including: Project Administration ,User Administration and Intelligent Server Administration
  • Good hand on experience in other BI tools such as Looker, Tableau and Power BI
  • Strong PL/SQL and report development experience.
  • Solid SQL and PL/SQL coding techniques; ability to create and maintain tables, constraints, triggers, views, stored procedures and functions, packages, and types; solid understanding of SQL tuning practices and indexing and partitioning strategies.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, all phases of the SDLC (software development life cycle), including requirements elicitation, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Highly analytical problem solver.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrate a desire to remain current with industry technologies and standards.
