About the Role

You will be an important member of our clinical team by ensuring the delivery of high-quality person-centred care to all patients. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams to provide effective and efficient evidence-based care, whilst also demonstrating commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

These positions are aimed at HMOs who are considering Intensive Care (ICU) as a career.

The positions involve 6 months ICU and 6 months in other critical care rotations in Anaesthesia and/or Emergency Medicine, in SVHM or one of our Secondment Hospital sites. Rotation through ICU will be in either term 1 or term 2 to enable you to gain experience and suitable referees should you plan on applying for the training program. Residents provide patient care under supervision and work a shift roster including rotation to St Vincent’s Private Hospital ICU.

Classifications for this position will range from HM13 – HM18 ($98,224.88 - $149,885.84) pro rata for part-time.

About Intensive Care

The ICU is a 20 bed mixed medical and surgical unit including cardiothoracic and neurosurgical intensive care services admitting over 1600 patients per year. Although high in acuity and patient severity of illness, ICU at SVHM maintains high performance and outstanding patient outcomes.

We provide care for patients with diverse health needs including sepsis, respiratory and cardiovascular compromise, renal, neuro-muscular, endocrine and haematological disorders. 

We provide peri-operative support for patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery and neurosurgical procedures, in addition to other major surgeries. 

Medical supports offered by ICU include: 

  • Mechanical and Non-invasive Ventilation
  • Advanced Haemodynamic monitoring and support
  • Renal Replacement Therapy
  • ECMO

ICU responds to MET (Medical Emergency Team) calls on the ward, as well as Code Blue. Our skilled ICU Liaison Nurses provide support to patients at risk of becoming critically ill on the wards.  We also provide a Tracheostomy service.
