At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space!

As part of a hardworking and accomplished team, you will be the primary support for planned maintenance and resolution of technical discrepancies on New Shepard Crew Capsule Mechanical Systems, including (but not limited to) the Payload Mission and Crew Systems hardware. In preparation for a launch, you’ll work closely with the vehicle managers and maintenance team to assure vehicle flight readiness and troubleshoot critical issues. You will author and review maintenance procedures, ensuring that work is robust and repeatable to support an increased launch cadence. You will also work closely with the design team and suppliers to propose and support design improvement activity including conceptual trades, design, fabrication, assembly and maintenance of custom tools.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with engineering support of field operations and/or diagnosing mechanical systems and hardware.
  • Experience with configuration management, nonconforming material review and disposition of discrepant hardware
  • Demonstrated understanding of common metallic and composite materials, surface treatments, and fasteners
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals related to mechanisms – e.g. dynamics, mass-spring systems, and related load cases and failure mechanisms
  • Strong coordination and project management skills, in order to track, manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Excellent digital literacy with the ability to rapidly learn and use a variety of software tools as needed.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.
