The opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cyber Underwriter to join the Markel Cyber team. We have been writing Cyber for over 10 years, across 6 proprietary Cyber products, on globally licensed company and syndicate paper. Our portfolio is large and diverse, consisting of primary and excess of loss business, for SME and large corporate, across 50 countries, including the US and UK. We pride ourselves on our leading Open Market offering, supplemented by delegated business via coverholders and market facilities. This role is based within the Cyber team, of which there are twelve dedicated members. This expert team is dedicated to providing best-in-breed service and are empowered to offer flexible and innovative solutions to our brokers and clients.  We give our Underwriters commercial freedom and ever-improving tools, training and intelligence, to help them operate effectively and take smart, calculated risks.

What you’ll be doing:

• Demonstrate a strategic and structured approach to broker development, communicate the Markel story to brokers and customers in a compelling and credible way that supports the brand
• Manage a portion or industry within the Cyber Portfolio, analysing, working with Actuaries, and creating strategy for the portfolio
• Collaborate with Markel claims colleagues on broker and customer meetings to maximise business development opportunities, as well studying claims trends and losses in order to further our Underwriting approach
• Challenge wordings/clauses, lead in navigating the complexities of drafting & amending wordings/ clauses, and raise concerns to Head of Cyber/wordings team
• Contribute to innovation within the product suite providing expert input into the creation of new products and proactive input into the refinement of existing products or the services relating to the product. Seek to regularly analyse competitors’ products, capabilities and appetite and share within the team
• Proactively develop, own and enhance our customer offering within Cyber, actively engaging with customers to identify their needs and provide solutions to problems, as well as seeking new ways to enhance the customer experience
• Take the lead in developing and managing key, Cyber specific broker relationships. Actively lead and manage pipelines for the team.
• Influence brokers and advance Markel’s interests through strong interpersonal and presentation skills
• Mentor junior members of staff to support their personal development and improve the operational effectiveness of the team as a whole
