Job Description:

Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on the physiologic, psychological and cognitive status of the patient. Provides nutritional counseling, identifies patient/caregiver learning needs and initiates medical nutrition therapy. Collaborates with physician and other healthcare providers as appropriate. Evaluates patient educational materials. Scope of Practice: The Diabetes Registered Dietitian Specialist (Certified Diabetes Educator) is able to recognize and prioritize complex data in order to identify needs of patients with diabetes across the lifespan, and provide therapeutic proble- solving, counseling and regimen adjustments. The scope of specialty diabetes practice includes management skills such as medical nutrition therapy, medication adjustment, exercise planning, counseling for behavior management and psychosocial issues. Attaining optimal metabolic control may include treatment and monitoring of acute and chronic complications.
  • Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.

  • Experience

  • Required: Completion of an American Dietetics Association (ADA) approved internship or coordinated undergraduate program

  • Preferred: Clinical medical office experience preferred.

  • Skills

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams.

    Proficient Computer skills

    Successful completion of all department-specific credentialing within first 90 days of employment

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration

    Required: Licensed in the State of Missouri as a Registered Dietitian.

    Preferred: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) within 18 months of hire.
