While on the team you will partner and collaborate with the business on the delivery of all project accounting activities by engaging with collaborators to cultivate and grow relationships that are critical to the success of the Liquids Pipeline Capital Assets team. You will look for opportunities to integrate with internal project teams to initiate, develop and deliver business requirements and training at regular intervals while reviewing and monitoring the Liquids Pipeline capital project entities for the Alberta based project accounting team.

What you will do:

  • Review, process and approve Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) submissions and setup/baseline new AFEs and AFE revisions. This includes providing guidance to AFE initiators and approvers and troubleshooting and resolving issues. A sound understanding of Delegation of Authority (DOA) is required to ensure that appropriate funding support is in place prior to approving AFEs. Monitor and manage AFE’s In Service Dates (ISDs), project end date extensions, Capital Interest (AFUDC) flags etc. Validate DCF Capital Classifications and monitor changes via lists and vetting process for all AFEs. Monitor inactive AFEs and coordinate project closure. Administer project close out forms to ensure unitization is done in a timely manner.

  • Gain a solid understanding of the Capitalization Policy, Distributable Cash Flow (DCF) Capital Classifications and knowledge of Intangibles and Contributions In Aid of Construction (CIAC) requirements that are essential for proper AFE setup.

  • Maintain a sound understanding of Enbridge’s Liquids Pipeline legal entity, Line of Business (LOB) and Operating Unit (OU) structure. Gain an adequate understanding of various Liquid Pipeline commercial agreements that have an impact on capital.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of US GAAP with the objectives of ensuring accurate accounting and financial reporting treatment.

  • Coordinate and administer monthly project cost sign-off in accordance with SOX requirements. Prepare quarterly SOX CWIP review and collect responses from Project Managers team. Alert project teams on cost overruns and need for budget revisions.

  • Aggregate, review, and process monthly project accruals in accordance with established procedures.  Identify and maintain unique project lists (i.e. Post Construction Environmental Monitoring) in collaboration with the business.

  • Provide scheduled training and ongoing support/guidance on Capitalization policy, Capital Classification, DOA, Accruals, Project setup and Oracle Project Management (OPM) workflow etc. Provide training and mentorship to peers and junior staff members within the department.

  • Perform Tangibles vs. Intangibles analysis, reconcile against applicable GL balances and make necessary adjusting entries. GAAP Account recs (CWIP, RWIP, Intangibles), FERC Account Reconciliations

  • Source AFUDC rates for LP and supply to Corp PA team for input

  • PA Reporting (Regulatory, Tax), CWIP by State/Province Reporting for Liquids Pipeline

  • Respond to PwC inquiries and other audit requirements.
     

Who you are:

You have:

  • A university degree specializing in accounting and/or professional designation with 4+ years of directly related accounting experience

  • Sound knowledge and the ability to apply accounting, auditing, tax and regulatory standards and principles while being an effective problem solver who is customer focused

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)

 

You can:

  • Be innovative, assertive, friendly natured and approachable with a can-do attitude while also being an independent self-starter who is diplomatic

  • Show strong digital literacy and proficiency with Oracle ERP systems, specifically Project Accounting along with strong Microsoft Excel skills and system knowledge using querying tools and pivot tables

  • Extremely organized and capable of balancing multiple priorities along with big picture issues with the detail

  • An excellent written and verbal communicator who is self-confident in opinions, flexible in approach with strong interpersonal skills that values others’ opinions and respects diversity

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
