We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Product Industrialization Engineer to contribute to our Industrialization/DFM team, focusing on product industrialization, design for manufacturing, and manufacturing engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing methods and proven leadership skills to drive the successful transition of products from design to production and experience in and interacting with product development teams. This role requires a strategic thinker who can collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes to meet production goals, ensure product quality, product cost, and product performance.

The Principal Product Industrialization Engineer will be responsible for being involved throughout the entire product development or engineering change (EC) lifecycle, from initial concept through manufacturing and launch. This position demands a hands-on approach to problem-solving, process improvement, and the implementation of best practices in design and manufacturing engineering. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage complex projects and maintain a focus on continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee product industrialization processes, ensuring smooth transition from design to full-scale manufacturing.

  • Remain well versed in manufacturing techniques (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering) for pipe bending, welding and brazing, sheet metal fabrication, machining and assembly operations; both within JCI factories and in the world at large.

  • Collaborate with design, R&D, and production teams to develop and implement design for manufacturing (DFM) strategies.

  • Ensure released information for manufacture is aligned to global manufacturing standards and is up to date with manufacturing best practices.

  • Oversee BOM transformation from EBOM to MBOM and ensure the accuracy, connection, and completeness of both

  • Develop and maintain factory capabilities matrix for use by design and engineering teams to ensure designs fit into factory tooling & methods.

  • Contribute to the definition and subsequent fulfillment of the definition of done for both major projects and minor changes in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • Prepare data and product comparisons to support design for manufacturing workshops, make/buy decisions on components, return on investment for equipment, or other applications

  • Participate along with Manufacturing Engineering on Kaizen events and quality concerns within factory environments to represent the improvements needed from the design team

  • Provide on-site production support as a representative of the product design key to project timelines

  • Understand material process flow and process flow mapping and be fluent in process definition and documentation methods

  • Scout, demo, and introduce advanced manufacturing technologies and automation to enhance chiller production.

  • Maintain a strong focus on health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.

  • International travel to factories in support of project and improvement efforts.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited four-year College or University is required. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in product manufacturing or development engineering with a very high percentage of time & experience on the factory floor in product and process development.

  • Able to identify key elements requiring control plans in support of Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience reviewing drawings, schematics and models and providing helpful feedback in design review situations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and stakeholders and be able to address the differing needs of design teams, factories, and supply chains.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions based on data and analysis.

  • Strong interest and knowledge of industry standards and best practices in manufacturing and design for manufacturing.

  • Working knowledge of PLM, 3D modeling and ERP/MES systems software

  • Experience working in an agile project management environment a plus

  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required
