We’re hiring a Rotating Equipment Engineer in Fort McMurray to be part of a dynamic Maintenance Engineering team. If you are passionate about continuous improvement, root cause failure analysis, and one-time cost-effective repairs, this is the job for you!

This role gives you the opportunity to be at the forefront of our Extraction and Tailings operations, where you will have an immediate impact on the business. You will be directly interfacing with Operations and Maintenance teams to mitigate threats impacting reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline, or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering designation or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Four years of field experience in an operating facility troubleshooting rotating equipment problems and providing short and long term solutions to increase the reliability and availability of the equipment.
  • Experience in material handling, with hands on knowledge on slurry pumps, gearboxes, motors, conveyors, and crushers preferred.
  • Experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis and Reliability metrics.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Experience with SAP / S4 and Fieldglass is considered an asset.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is considered an asset.
  • Client service oriented, ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as required, and Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and excellent organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the primary contact between the Production Unit and the Rotating Engineering team, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
  • Participate in daily and weekly Production Unit meetings to support equipment availability and decision-making.
  • Provide updates and reports to stakeholders on the status of tasks, progress, and any potential concerns or deviations from the plan.
  • Issue scope of work and inspection recommendations for Outage and routine maintenance activities.
  • Issue reliability metrics reports for different equipment classes.
  • Monitor equipment health, troubleshoot performance and failures, and complete root cause analysis.
  • Complete equipment wear analysis.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to increase equipment reliability and decrease operating cost.

Location and other Key Details: 

  • You will work out of a Syncrude Mildred Lake location in Fort McMurray.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
