This position provides athletic training services and assists with the coordination of the sports medicine program at area schools. This position requires the ability to help develop, modify, and implement various policies and procedures for the school including but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses; education for student-athletes/family members, administration and organization an overall sports medicine program, and recognition and referral to appropriate health care providers as a part of a comprehensive health care program.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from CAATE approved athletic training program (Master’s Degree Preferred)
  • National Certification in good standing through the BOC, Inc.
  • Michigan Athletic Training License Required/Eligible
  • Other Certifications preferred but not required.
  • BLS for healthcare provider
  • National Certification in good standing through the BOC, Inc.
  • Michigan Athletic Training License (or eligible) required
  • 3-5 Years’ Experience at the High School Level Preferred
  • Other Certifications preferred but not required.

Responsible for the operations of the Athletic Training Program at a local High School. This includes conducting assigned office hours, team practice and game coverage, maintenance of medical records and injury reports.

  • The Athletic Trainer will develop/modify guidelines for emergency care procedures.
  • Advise athletes and their parents in seeking proper medical care for follow-up care and/or surgery.
  • Work under the direction of the team physician or other cooperating physician with respect to athletes’ treatment goals.
     
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation on athletes treated. Maintain accurate, clear and complete documentation according to department policy. Relays pertinent information to those involved (i.e. physician, athletic director, coach, parent/guardian, and athlete). Refer and navigate the athlete or patient through appropriate plan of care by communicating with all involved parties.
  • Provides supervision and assistance as needed in the purchase and fitting of athletic equipment including helmets, braces, bandages, taping and other active assistive devices.
  • Responsible for providing education to the athletic director, coaches, athletes, and parents in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The education will be relevant to middle and high school athletes.
  • Responsible for the organization, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies. Submits annual budgets for all first aid and medical supply needs for each year.
  • Maintains high quality level of skills and participates in ongoing educational opportunities adequate to maintain certification in good standing with the Board of Certification, Inc. Adhere to ethical and legal parameters which define the role of a certified and licensed athletic trainer.
  • Must meet re-certification standards as established by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, BOC and Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Complies with MHSAA rules and policies.
  • Administers rehabilitation techniques and evaluates the readiness for the athlete or patient to return to previous activity level or appropriate for patients goals.
  • Serve as a resource to enhance public awareness of sports medicine and injuries related to athletics.
  • Promptly and accurately completes departmental responsibilities including PTO requests, CPR renewal, hospital and departmental competencies, and other duties as requested.
