The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Business Solutions co-op student/intern for the Summer and Fall 2025 work terms (May to December) to provide support for Investment Operation projects related to corporate and asset class initiatives.

The Business Solutions Analyst - Illiquids co-op/intern will work within our Investment Operations department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to prepare and develop department analytics, as well as a variety of continuous improvement projects.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Business Solutions team, works with internal partners to design end-to-end business solutions on new products and strategic initiatives, provides lead support to Investment Operations’ SimCorp Dimension (SCD) business users, and oversees BCI’s relationships related to SWIFT messaging and custody.

The co-op student/intern will work under the Senior Analyst, Business Solutions, in collaboration with the rest of the team and other stakeholders. Work will primarily focus on day-to-day processing and monitoring, with a secondary focus on building solutions that assist the team in more effectively.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Develop conceptual knowledge of trade workflows in an investment management firm with a specific focus on illiquid asset classes

  • Troubleshoot and enhance existing workflows/workbooks used in daily operations

  • Build and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with team members of Investment Operations and various departments’ key operational personnel 

  • Develop knowledge of relevant internal systems with the department and BCI

  • Assist in managing Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the team

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • A fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment-related disciplines is essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail

  • Strong attention to detail 

  • Problem-solving abilities 

  • Has an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn

  • Some technical skills, including prior experience/training with Excel

  • Ability to work effectively in a close interdependent team environment

  • Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
