The Opportunity
As a Commercial Insurance Billing Specialist, you will apply your attention to detail and organizational skills to support the accurate processing and billing of commercial insurance accounts. You will work closely with our Commercial Sales team to ensure client premiums are billed correctly, policy documentation is accurate, and day-to-day processing operations run smoothly. This role offers a clear path to grow within the organization as you develop your skills and knowledge of the commercial insurance industry.
A day in the life of a Billing Specialist -
Work closely with the VP of Commercial Operations to deliver on clean data control reports.
Bill client premiums accurately and on time, becoming an expert to support all regions with the more complex billing practices such as multi carrier subscriptions, split receivables, HUB2HUB billing and unlicensed carrier billing.
Master our accounts receivable process and help to streamline collection of client payments
Use your billing expertise to become a centralized resource for accounting discrepancies on files. Troubleshooting with commercial insurance teams to resolve the discrepancies within an acceptable time standards.
Become an expert on the client refund and write off processes, understanding all approval processes and documentation requirements
Compare data on documents received from insurance carriers to existing data within client files
Process commercial insurance renewals, endorsements, new business, and cancellations and update records for required changes.
Prepare document packages to be provided to clients, including Certificates of Insurance, Cover Notes, Endorsements, and Invoices
Review and ensure accuracy of policy documentation from insurers before forwarding to clients
Answer account-related questions and requests from clients, lawyers, and banks related to billing and coverage
Provide excellent internal customer service to the commercial sales team and our insureds
Support the smooth running of day-to-day operations within a busy office environment
What you will bring to our team -
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage repetitive tasks while remaining focused
Mathematical or accounting mindset, with an ability to understand the flow of money and commissions between organizations and individuals
Task, deadline, and detail-oriented with quick and accurate data entry
Ability to analyze data on a recurring basis and identify discrepancies
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to obtain and sort documents and information quickly
Understanding of and ability to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets
Ability to keep current on changes in the insurance industry as they pertain to the role
Problem-solving ability and initiative to think outside the box for solutions
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Level 1 General Insurance License, or willingness to obtain within the first six months
Minimum of one year of commercial insurance or accounting experience as an asset
Willingness to obtain an Industry designation (CIP, CAIB, CRM, General Insurance & Risk Management Diploma – BCIT)
Experience with EPIC (our broker management system) is an asset

Salary Expectations –
The expected hourly range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope, and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages which could include extended health benefits, disability insurance, RRSP matching, paid-time-off benefits, and eligible bonuses, and commissions for some positions.
