Our work touches every part of Asana's product and infrastructure, from core infrastructure APIs to the design system that forms the backbone of our user interface. We're passionate about creating tools that not only solve current challenges but also anticipate future needs, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

At Asana, Staff Software Engineers are responsible for the team’s execution, technical culture and quality, and long-term engineering strategy. You will take on complex projects, lead the work of several ICs, partner with cross-functional and cross-organizational stakeholders, and often mentor team members in technical design and project leadership.

This role is based in our Reykjavik office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.

What you’ll achieve

  • Own technical design and project execution for the team, delegating work to other engineers on the team when appropriate
  • Make hands-on engineering contributions to frameworks that impact all aspects of the Asana product
  • Mentor engineers on the team through activities such as pairing and code reviews to promote a culture of technical excellence
  • Partner with other frameworks and product engineering teams to identify opportunities to enable teams to develop faster at Asana, and help the company achieve our goals faster.
  • Champion code quality and best practices, leading by example and through frameworks.
  • Influence software development patterns and guide the technical direction across the organization.
  • Collaborate with a world-class team of engineers to enable new functionality through easy to use building blocks.

About you

  • Have participated in leading initiatives and projects, with 6+ years in software engineering and 3+ years at a leadership level.
  • Experience in orchestrating substantial initiatives across multiple teams and potentially organizations.
  • Proficient in managing cross-functional stakeholders and influencing teams toward beneficial outcomes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, adept at engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Enthusiastic about mentoring across skill levels, providing constructive growth opportunities and feedback.
  • Adapt quickly to different areas of a large codebase.
  • Familiar with React / GraphQL ecosystem, TypeScript and Scala.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
