Your Role: Senior Project Manager – IT

The Senior Project Manager – IT is accountable for governing and delivering complex IT programs and portfolio initiatives across India and global teams. The role focuses on strategic alignment, portfolio governance, value realization, financial transparency, and executive stakeholder management, rather than hands-on project execution. Operating as a senior individual contributor, this role acts as the single point of accountability between business leadership, IT business partners, global delivery teams, and vendors—ensuring that IT investments deliver measurable business outcomes aligned to Sandvik’s digital and IT strategy.
Key Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to lead and govern complex IT programs and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, Mining / BA IT portfolio priorities, and Sandvik digital strategy. The role is accountable for value realization, stakeholder alignment, delivery excellence, cost governance, and risk management across India and global IT initiatives. This role focuses on governance, leadership, and value realization rather than day-to-day task execution. The Senior Project Manager operates through delivery teams, vendors, and partners, ensuring outcomes are achieved in line with business and IT strategy.
Key focus areas include:
• Ownership of Mining IT Portfolio initiatives (G0–G5) and governance across N0–N4 gates • End-to-end leadership of global and India IT programs • Translation of business strategy into prioritized IT initiatives • Driving digitalization, automation, and process transformation • Executive-level stakeholder and vendor management
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Portfolio & Program Leadership Accountability: Ensure IT portfolio initiatives deliver prioritized, funded, and measurable business value aligned to Mining IT strategy. Key Responsibilities: Own and govern IT demand intake, prioritization, and approval in alignment with Mining IT portfolio priorities Translate business strategy and requirements into approved IT initiatives through defined governance models o Act as the primary interface between business leadership, IT Business Partners, and global delivery teams o Maintain a holistic portfolio view of interdependencies, risks, sequencing, and value realization across initiatives
2) Governance & Delivery Assurance Accountability: Provide end-to-end delivery accountability for medium to large IT programs across India and global teams. Key Responsibilities: Establish and govern project structures, delivery models, milestones, and escalation paths
Ensure adherence to Sandvik project models, quality standards, compliance, and audit requirements Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and issues, escalating through operational or steering forums as required
Ensure transparent, timely reporting of delivery status, risks, and financials to senior stakeholders
Govern testing, business acceptance, and change readiness to ensure solutions are business-ready at rollout
3) Business & Stakeholder Leadership Accountability: Build trusted partnerships with senior business and IT stakeholders to ensure delivery outcomes meet or exceed expectations. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the single point of accountability for IT delivery to assigned business areas Lead executive-level governance with internal and external stakeholders
Influence decision-making by presenting clear options, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations Act as decision authority for delivery approach, sequencing, and risk mitigation within approved governance frameworks
4) Financial & Vendor Governance Accountability:
Ensure financial discipline, cost transparency, and vendor performance across assigned programs. Key Responsibilities: Own financial governance for programs, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control Ensure accurate IT chargeback, cost allocation, and invoice management
Track and communicate total cost of ownership and realized business value (cost savings, productivity, risk reduction)
Govern vendor performance, contractual compliance, service quality, and continuous improvement
5) Transformation & Continuous Improvement Accountability: Drive digitalization, automation, and process improvement aligned with business and IT strategy.
Key Responsibilities: Identify opportunities for business transformation enabled by technology Support business case development for growth, cost optimization, and operational excellence o Inspire adoption of new processes and systems by business users Promote best practices, standardization, and continuous improvement across the IT portfolio
6) IT Financial Performance & KPI Governance Accountability: Provide executive-level transparency of IT financials and performance metrics across India.
Key Responsibilities: Consolidate and report country-level IT KPIs (delivery precision, incidents, ITAM, ServiceNow metrics) Ensure accuracy and timeliness of IT cost reporting and invoicing Manage outbound and inbound IT invoices through ServiceNow, including master data and allocation logic
Present consolidated IT performance insights to senior stakeholders
KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS • Delivery of portfolio initiatives on time, within budget, and aligned to business priorities • Realized business value against approved business cases • Transparency and accuracy of IT financials and KPIs • Stakeholder confidence and satisfaction at senior business and IT levels
