Job Summary
Full time, 40 hrs/week, 4-10 hr shifts, Days
The Infusion Service Line APP is responsible for the care of oncology (solid tumor and malignant hematology) and classical hematology patients in the outpatient adult infusion unit at MGBCI NWH.
The MGB Cancer Institute is seeking a full time (40hr/week) Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Infusion Unit First Responder team at the MGB Cancer Institute at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The Infusion Unit APP will serve as an infusion unit first responder, promote infusion services access and efficiency and provide solid tumor medical oncology, malignant hematology and classical hematology urgent care/symptom management in collaboration with primary disease center teams and nursing, physician and operational leaders.
While on the adult infusion unit, the APP oversees the care of patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders, serves as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies, partners with the triage nursing team and primary disease providers to identify and care for complex patients requiring same day urgent evaluation and symptom management and supports patients awaiting hospital admission.
• The NP/PA works collaboratively with primary hematology/oncology teams and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care across the care continuum.
• The NP/PA provides consultation to both nurses and physicians and supports initiatives to optimize specialty care, decrease ED utilization and implement MGBCI initiatives locally.
• The NP/PA utilizes advanced practice knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems.
• Works closely with nursing staff to provide complex care coordination and symptom management through indirect patient care and to create capacity for urgent visits.
• Writes orders which are in accord with current guidelines.
• Maintains and practices in accord with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations. Provides consultation to both nurses and physicians.
• Serves on appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees.
• Collaborates with unit staff, Clinical Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Specialists and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs.
• Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.
• Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.
• Supports research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.
• Evaluates own practice and program effectiveness.
• Assists nursing and medical colleagues in research efforts.
• Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials.
Skills/Qualification:
• DEA and MCSR is required
• ACLS certification is preferred
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an APP in oncology is preferred
Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and conducting ongoing evaluations.

-Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.

Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant required
