The Team

The Director of Executive Compensation will participate in the design, development, and implementation of executive compensation strategies and programs across a range of companies in Hitachi’s ecosystem.  The focus of this position will be on VP+ level roles, as well as long term incentive compensation design, preparing analysis for Compensation Committees and supporting the CHRO’s talent agenda for top leadership.

The Role

  • Executive Compensation Strategy: design and execute executive compensation programs and policies to effectively attract and retain leadership talent.
  • Provide technical expertise on executive compensation design, policies, procedures, regulations, and compliance.
  • Develop and oversee key performance dashboards using both internal and external benchmark data in order to measure performance and support decision making.
  • Provide analytical and technical support for executive compensation programs and assist in preparing materials for the Compensation Committees of the Board of Directors, partnering with the business leaders for the company.
  • Monitor developments in executive compensation regulations, and disclosure, focusing on Japanese owned companies.
  • Proactively research market, trends, company practices, regulatory and political environment to advise on possible impacts; offer alternatives and support for selecting appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrate a highly specialized level of expertise/knowledge of executive compensation program design that aligns to business strategies and goals as well as shareholder expectations.
  • Integrate business needs to identify and develop innovative, well-conceived and appropriate design recommendations.
  • Develop on-going relationships to better understand business needs and approach with necessary partnerships both internally and externally.
  • Easily reach out to external companies and share best practice ideas, benchmark on approaches, and stay current real-time on trends.
  • Collaborate with the recruiting team to structure competitive executive compensation packages for new VP+ hires, ensuring alignment with internal pay equity and market practices.
  • Lead efforts to harmonize executive compensation packages across the group company and acquired entities during M&A transactions, ensuring consistency and alignment with overall corporate compensation philosophy.

What You’ll Do

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a focus in finance/business, accounting, mathematic/statistics, HR or economics.
  • 6-10 years of industry experience in an executive compensation, finance or legal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of executive compensation, such as incentive compensation and equity compensation valuation and regulatory governance.
  • Prior experience in executive compensation at global companies and/or supporting executive compensation at management or HR consulting firms.
  • Experience analyzing and recommending variable and equity program designs.
  • Experience preparing and communicating materials for Senior Management and Compensation Committee meetings.
  • Strong consulting and influencing skills with external presence.
  • Ability to comprehend complex regulations and program provisions.
  • Experience understanding financial concepts and interpreting financial data.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, with the ability to build and interpret compensation models, including data analysis and scenario planning.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent attention to detail and quality orientation.
  • Program management and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and relationships.
  • Expert knowledge in executive compensation practices, regulations and compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of how to navigate both strategic and analytical aspects of the position (rolling up your sleeves when necessary).
  • Demonstrated program management skills with experience operationalizing complex initiatives into systematic and efficient work streams.
  • Strong ability to understand surveys and how to use them, submit data to them and analyze the data outcomes.
