The Electronic Warfare Division currently has an opening for an optical analyst with expertise in simulation, modeling, and data analysis related to optical tracking and imaging of orbital objects. This position in our Albuquerque, NM office. This is an opportunity to use your experience helping the BOBCAT mission, in which we support AF Research Laboratory optical research and development projects at the AFRL/RDS Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, NM. Projects primarily involve experiments on optical propagation through turbulence, including optical communications and imaging using adaptive optical systems for real-time atmospheric compensation. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Simulation, modeling, and analysis of laboratory and field experiments for applications including astronomical observations, satellite tracking and characterization, and laser communications
  • Detailed modeling and simulation of optical tracking, imaging, and communications experiments
  • Processing and analysis of optical imagery, radiometric signatures, and other data from experiments
  • Design of diagnostic tests
  • Development and maintenance of modeling and analysis code
  • Documentation of results
  • Communicate directly with customer engineers and scientists under direction of the Leidos program manager

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD Engineering or Physics
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Experience in wave-optical analysis or simulation of free space optical propagation
  • Experience using and programming machine learning software for systems and experiment modeling
  • Experience with scripting languages (Mathcad, Matlab, IDL, etc)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in quantum communications systems modeling, analysis, and experiments Experience with low level programming languages (C, C++, Fortran, etc)
