Responsibilities:
- Operating and maintaining cutting machinery: OptiCut Operators set up, operate, and tend computerized or manual cutting/slicing machines (including those for wood, glass, stone, rubber, etc.).
- Reading and interpreting work orders and blueprints: They consult and interpret work orders and cutting cards to determine the proper machine settings and required cuts. They may need to read blueprints, schematics, or technical manuals.
- Setting up and adjusting equipment: OptiCut Operators program and adjust equipment, including selecting proper cutting programs and fixtures, establishing stop locations, and adjusting the laser beam focal point.
- Cutting and shaping materials: They perform cutting and shaping of materials to meet specifications and fill work orders, including cutting and installing components, and feeding materials into or through equipment.
- Monitoring machine performance and product quality: They monitor machine operations to ensure proper functioning, check gauges and dials, and detect malfunctions. They inspect finished products for defects and verify conformance to specifications.
- Performing routine maintenance: They conduct routine maintenance on the cutting machinery, including cleaning, oiling, and replacing worn parts.
- Recording production data: They maintain production logs and report any malfunctions or quality issues encountered during production.
Skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of machinery, including setting up, calibrating, and troubleshooting equipment.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in monitoring settings and outputs, and meticulously inspecting products for quality.
- Mechanical Skills: Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Operations Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or display screens to ensure the machine is working properly.
- Quality Control Analysis: Testing how well a product or service works.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to hold or move items with their hands.
- Near Vision: Ability to see details up close.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience operating cutting machines (especially in a manufacturing or woodworking environment).
- Experience with CNC machinery and programming is a plus.
- Understanding of wood types, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Physical stamina to stand, lift, and move throughout shifts.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safety.
